MOD POST: JULY EVENTS + TAKEN LIST
Hey everyone! It's that time again: the monthly event rundown!
As usual, first we have a couple other things to cover.
1. As a reminder: Activity Check goes up on the 26 and Reserves are already open!
2. We've made a decision about the canon point field! We'll be changing the table template to incorporate canon point and look a bit cleaner in the next day. At that point, we'll be asking all players to comment to be added again. However to make things easier on everyone, we'll include the form in the AC post! That way it'll all be in one place and it'll be easier to remember to fill it out. That should streamline things for everyone. We'll also place the new form on the new taken page so that incoming characters in the July round will be good to go.
And now for the events! July is a busy month and the last month before the overarcing plot kicks in a bit more for awhile, but the events are lighthearted and easy to skip for the most part, so don't panic!
On Day 107 / July 3-4, characters will wake to find themselves a little different... on their faces at least. Characters who normally sport a beard will find themselves clean-shaven without the slightest sign of stubble. Characters who normally don't have one will find themselves granted a beard that won't go away. Cut it and it grows back within seconds! This can be any kind of beard from a landing strip to a floor-length curtain, but it will be stuck there all day. Mustaches may be included as well! If your character has a mustache and no beard normally, it's up to you whether to add a beard or remove the mustache. This event applies even to girls and little kids -- everyone! It is also 100% opt-in. In other words, your characters don't have to be effected unless you want them to be!
Some beard type references can be found here and here!
On Day 109 / July 7-8, a few characters are running an IC effort to beautify the city after the flood destroyed low vegetation. This is a player miniplot, and details can be found here! Please direct questions to that post and the muns running the miniplot.
On Day 111-Day 113 / July 11-15, it's time for another House Contest! This time, the open grass area of Gefion Park will be set up like a middle school field day or sports festival event! Participation is optional, but should characters choose to join in on the fun they'll be able to compete in nine different events throughout the three days. The events will be space so that everyone could participate in all of them if they so wished, and are themed on the Gods. The thing is, they aren't all typical sports events... things might get a little weird!
There will be a large sign displaying the prizes for winning events. The individual winner of each event will receive their choice of either a closet-full of nice clothes to their taste (brands and style from home allowed) or a lifetime supply of nice food to their taste (things from home again allowed -- the food would appear in the Welcome Hall kitchen only for them, or in their home if they have paid housing). The second place winners will receive their choice of a free day at Folkvang or a voucher for up to two gold runes (roughly $200) at Sky's Prize. These businesses are described here!
Beyond that, the House that gets the most win points (each first place winner counts for two points and each second place counts for one) will be the total "winner" of the event! The prize for the winning House is also on the sign and will be each character's choice of: a pet (dog, cat, or rabbit) or non-motor transportation (a bicycle, roller blades, or skateboard -- all very high quality and impervious to damage).
The events will take place three each over the three days of the event. On the nights in between, there will be live music, dancing, and feasting. The events are as follows, with more details to come in the log at event time:
Day 111: Odin, Thor, Loki events:
Spelling Bee: just like grade school!
Drinking Contest: the last one sitting straight wins!
Disguise Contest: NPC judges determine who looks least like themselves!
Day 112: Sigyn, Hel, Heimdall events:
Hot-dog eating Contest: who can eat the most?
Battle Royale: last person unbloodied wins!
Obstacle Course: race to the finish!
Day 113: Freyr, Freya, Baldr events:
Talent Show: NPC judges choose the winners!
Beauty Pageant: NPC judges pick the prettiest Travellers!
Arm Wrestling Tournament: show off your guns!
All characters are welcome in any event. Which events you participate in are not at all determined by your House. Characters who live in Paid Housing and win events still have their points credited to the House their powers come from, and wins can't be donated to other Houses. Winners will be determined by checking into this mod comment and asking to be granted the win. You may sign up any time before July 11 no matter how many others have! We'll do our best to be fair and determine the winners by a combo of randomization and likelihood to win given their abilities. We're sorry they have to be chosen in advance, but it's for clarity's sake.
On Day 118-119 / July 25-28, you'll find Loki's pulled another prank on everyone. Travellers will wake up in one another's bodies, as if their minds have been swapped! This is a standard body swap event! Characters will swap in pairs (as in if Alan Wake were to wake up as Conan Edogawa, Conan would have to wake up as Alan). However for maximum fun, you may optionally have your character switch with a different person for each IC day (for up to two swaps total: one July 25-26, one July 27-28). All swaps must be between Travellers -- no NPCs or pets allowed. Beyond that, it's entirely up to you what happens! This event is all 100% opt-in.
That's it for this month! Questions should be directed to the mod comments below as usual!

EVENT WINNER SIGN-UPS
DAY 111
no subject
House: Freyr
Canon: magi labyrinth of magic
Event: Disguise Contest
Skills: Aladdin really loves dressing up and mimicking other people. He's pretty good at emulating others and changing his outfit to match. I'm not sure how well he'll do but he'll be having fun with this event.
no subject
House: Hel
Canon: Detective Conan.
Event: Spelling Bee.
Skills: Very good memory and familiarity with a broad range of knowledge -- his specialitiy might be detective work, but in order to accurately read scenes, he's read up on a lot of different branches of science, history and geography and is currently learning a lot about medical technology in order to work with the forensics unit. His weak points are things romance related, girl related; pop-culture is half and half.
no subject
House: Freyr
Canon: No.6
Event: Disguise Contest.
Skills: Nezumi is very good at making himself look and sound like a female. He can change his stature and expressions and everything. His alias is Eve. Not sure if he'll be the most talented at disguising himself, but he will definitely give it his all for the chance to get free food.
no subject
House: Loki
Canon: Prince of Tennis
Event: Drinking Contest
Skills: Niou is a teenage boy and basically has little to no experience with drinking but he will be doing this for the hell of it, because people at home would flip!
Event: Disguise Contest
Skills: Niou is possibly a cosplayer in canon, or at least carries around wigs and things on a regular basis to impersonate the other members of his tennis team at the drop of a hat. He's extremely good at it; he and his doubles partner once switched for an entire game and not only looked exactly like each other, but played like each other. His super special tennis power involves not only copying someone's play style, but also their mindset, so that it seems, even without a costume, that playing Niou is actually playing a different person entirely.
no subject
House: Heimdall
Canon: Original Character
Event: Spelling Bee
Skills: Cheriour is an angel, and due to the fact that he's been looking over humans for centuries, he knows quite a bit about the human language and often uses big words in conversation without even really thinking about it. There are some more modern words he doesn't really know the meaning of, but he knows Latin well enough to parse the meaning of them if push comes to shove.
no subject
House: Freya
Canon: Assassin's Creed
Event: Spelling Bee
Skills: Caterina is extremely well-read, and has just about the best education an Italian noble of the Renaissance era could hope for. She also works at the library and has been reading books of many different topics almost non-stop since she arrived in Asgard. She's very intelligent, and really should have no problem with a Spelling Bee at all.

House: Sigyn
Canon: No.6
Event: Spelling Bee
Skills: Shion was a child prodigy, accepted as an elite citizen and placed into extremely advanced schooling at the age of two due to his placement on intelligence assessments. While his track in was ecology as opposed to literature, the school system managed to teach their students about a wide variety of fields before the age of 12, and thus Shion knows a little bit of everything.... that an incredibly advanced dystopian society would teach him, that is.
However, to make up for the lack of literature (aside from textbooks, he's had never read a hard copy book in his life), he recently begun spending all of his free time reading a wide variety of books (mostly classics such as Shakespeare, Faust, classic poetry, etc.), and continued to do so after arriving in Asgard. He reads a book or two a day without question, and seeing as that he can memorize long sequences of numbers after glancing at them once and recite or recognize a fair amount of literary quotes after only reading them once, it seems fair to say that he wouldn't forget the spelling of a word once he's read it. Naturally, biological, medical, or otherwise scientific words would be fairly easy to him, and though he may not understand a lot of more modern terms, it seems likely that he would be able to spell a good portion of them or at least pick apart their roots and to give them an educated guess. Being able to rattle off the scientific names of plants and animals without any issues is helpful, okay. Really.
tl;dr because I can't seem to not write essays, HE'D DO WELL. Somewhere in the top 5 or 10, I would say, if not higher depending on the participants?

House: Freya
Event: Drinking contest
Skills: Come on she is basically a teenage alcoholic :| when is she not drinking ;A;
no subject
House: Odin
Canon: Original
Event: Spelling Bee
Skills: This kid reads books... lots of books every single day because he has nothing better to do when he can't go outside. He also carries a dictionary around with him most of the time and frequently looks into it
it's not just dead weight, so he would probably be familiar with some of the harder and uncommon words as well.no subject
House: Odin
Canon: Inu X Boku SS
Event: Spelling Bee
Skills: Ririchiyo reads a lot of books, and not only that but she reads the complicated kind ever since she was a child. Thusly, her knowledge of different words is quite high on the intelligence scale. Another thing to note is that she does well in her classes as she was elected as the speaker for her class after having only just enrolled. She also uses quite a lot of big and complicated words when either speaking haughtily or when she’s thinking to herself.
Event: Drinking Contest
Skills: Honestly? She has none in this particular area of expertise. For the most part, Kagerou tricked her into it and since she is someone who won’t (and can’t) defy rules, she’ll participate due to her ‘responsible’ nature.
no subject
Canon: Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni
Event: Drinking Contest
Skills: HAHA at a young age, she's been allowed to have alcohol at family gatherings and what not. She's only average with being able to hold her liquor.
no subject
House: Odin
Canon: Sherlock Holmes [2009]
Event: Disguise Contest
Skills: He makes a convincing woman.
no subject
House: Heimdall
Canon: Supernatural
Event: Disguise Contest
Skills: Her size may be difficult to hide, but there are enough underage people in Asgard for this to work. And she knows very well (if briefly) how to not be herself, even in her own body, so she can fake mannerisms and expressions!
no subject
House: Hel
Canon: Original Character
Event: Spelling Bee
Relevant Skills: Samantha is on the 'better' side of the classic home-schooled brat. She's pulled an online associates mostly through AP classes and a few online courses, and is a pretty solid self-study. Spelling's on the list, though she's by no means perfect as far as all that's concerned. Spelling's definitely part of a Letters degree, and a good way to get an A, but people use spell checkers too often these days.
Event: Drinking Contest
Relevant Skills: Despite appearances and the fact that she would usually claim she's too young to drink, Samantha has a little experience with the drink. She knows for a fact that it basically did nothing to her in her world, along with most poisons. She's assuming that's still the case
In truth? She's not immune to poisons like she was at home (yay for power loss!), so she's going to get drunk for her first time. However, she's got a stiff constitution, a stubborn will and is at least more resistant than the average person. Even if she doesn't have a built-up tolerance yet, it's going to take a bit of booze to drop her.
no subject
House: Odin
Canon: Axis Powers Hetalia
Event: Spelling Bee
Skills: Iceland and literature in general go together quite well; he's been reading and writing basically since he was born, and he was born over 1000 years ago. He has a great deal of knowledge of vocabulary and spelling as someone who spends a lot of time doing that sort of thing does. He also knows obscure words/words that aren't used that often anymore simply because he was alive when they were used. It may also be worth noting that if any of the words regarding Asgard and its place names come up he could spell those in his sleep, given his native language is Icelandic. He should do quite well, and it is possible for him to win.
Event: Drinking Contest
Skills: Iceland has an above average tolerance, though he usually doesn't drink all that often. He's also usually pretty good at pacing himself. He's likely to try to get the competition to drink more, too, if he can talk them into it/inflame their competitive spirits. Iceland could also boil off the alcohol, actually, though he probably wouldn't do that unless he was one of the last few and was worried he might lose (and he wouldn't do it if he thought he'd get caught).
Re: DAY 111
House: Hel
Canon: Persona 3
Event: Spelling Bee
Skills: Minato is skilled in school academics, and constantly scores at the top of his class
(provided the player doesn't make him sleep in class). This includes English, so he should at least reach the finals.Re: DAY 111
House: Sigyn
Canon: Katawa Shoujo
Event: Spelling Bee
Skills: She reads tons and tons and tons of books, and she's basically eaten a good part of them (with her eyes) that are in the Great Library so far, if we don't count the ones she's read in her own world. Therefore, she's grasped a very good memory, knowledge of words, language, and their variants. Hanako is just what you'd call Book Smart incarnated. Partecipating this game won't be hard to her.
no subject
House: Hel
Canon: Hetalia
Event: Drinking Contest
Skills: Provided he doesn't drink rapidly England has a high tolerance for alcohol (he drinks quite often; his problem is usually pacing himself). He's also the kind of person who will throw himself at a brick wall until his bones are broken if he's determined enough. He'll push as far as he needs to go to stay sitting upright.
(PS: The UK is #17 on the list of countries by alcohol consumption if that helps any.)
no subject
House: Freya
Canon: Macross Frontier
Event: Spelling Bee
Skills: Mikhail is not the top of his class for nothing. This kid is pretty smart academically, and spelling shouldn't be a problem for him.
Re: DAY 111
House: Loki
Canon: Axis Powers Hetalia
Event: Drinking Contest
Skills: Romanians are generally considered to be one of the heaviest drinkers in the world (ranked 8th), and given the nation's age it's safe to say he's formed a convincing tolerance for it even without the 'nation' part intact. If anything, he's not going to pass up the opportunity to drink to his heart's content HAHA.
Re: DAY 111
House: Freya
Canon: Axis Powers Hetalia
Event: Drinking Contest
Skills: Koreans drink a lot. According to the World Health Organization, Korea is "the world's biggest per capita consumer of spirits". So there's that. Plus he's a pretty big guy, it'd take a lot to get him drunk.
