Okay, thought about it some more, and I think I'm going to sit this one out, unfortunately. IC and OOC timing are both not so great for this :(
Is there anything that Samantha would ask Merlin to do while they're away? Maybe keep tabs on everything?
He could also ask someone with drawing life to give them a messenger animal (not birds, though, apparently the giants would just kill them on sight).
