Sooort of, but not really. The ocean isn't that big in this world, and the mermaids are extremely proud people that might actually choose death over abandoning their culture and history. Some of them might be willing to try but the vast majority and Ran herself might shrug and go back to sighing wistfully for the good ol' days of everyone else dying and not them. :')
