ASGARD REUNION: WEEK ONE EVENTS
Hello, hello! Faith here with your event description for Week One of our big reunion! We're going to keep it fairly simple for you so that it's not too top-heavy, since we'd really like this month to be lighthearted fun times.
First, though, a few things of note:
Awright, with that out of the way, on to the event!
WEEK ONE: The Travellers' Return
As the first Travellers start tricking into the city, they will be greeted with Asgard in full-festivity. Think banners of blessings and thanks to the various groups and God Houses from the war efforts, endless streams of confetti falling from the sky in every color of the God districts, and twinkle lights that suspend midair with no visible cords attached to them. There'll be music and food and enough drink to go around.
When people start to realize that the Travellers are among them, the festivities will grow even more raucous and excited. Every native has words of praise to be said, even to those that never saw a day of the war, and all Travellers are treated with the highest respect and adoration. The Gods themselves will mingle throughout the city, some eager to see old friends and others keeping their gratitude a little more private. With the arrival of the subjects of their revelry, the natives will strive to keep the party going for as long as possible, spanning the entire stretch of the first week.
As word spreads of the Travellers' return, the many kingdoms across Yggdrasil will travel to Asgard to greet them and share in their profound adoration of the World Tree's heroes. They will each interact differently with the Travellers:
OPTIONAL CURSE: The Lighting of the Lanterns
As is tradition on the Day the Travellers Left, the natives will be lighting handmade lanterns of a very special nature: every single Traveller will have a personalized lantern with their name on it. There be one for every single character that entered Asgard throughout the course of the game whether they return for the reunion or not, and natives will be hard at work making ones for their new arrivals as well! That means regardless of whether or not you played in the game, there will be a lantern for your character. The lanterns will float around the city all night long, never flying higher than arm's reach and bobbing up and down as though following the rhythm of the music playing throughout the streets.
Here's the fun part: the lanterns are, naturally, sprinkled with a bit of magic! They've been charmed by the gods and a variety of effects will take place if the lanterns are caught. You can choose from any of the following:
if a Traveller catches their own lantern
if a Traveller catches someone else's lantern
Once caught and the curse is in place, the lanterns will be released and continue to float around for the entirety of the festival, but will not have curse effects if the same lantern is caught a second time by the same person. On the seventh day, they will all float into the night sky to join the stars.
And that's all for Week One! The event log is already up here and from this point forward, you can begin threading to your hearts' content. Feel free to use this post for plotting and let us know if you have any question / comments / concerns / dirty jokes in the comments below! Happy anniversary, y'all!
REUNION LINK DIRECTORY
First, though, a few things of note:
- Please remember to request membership to the event comms
asgardreprise and
asgardcoda if you plan on making your own posts at any point. We apologize again for not asking y'all to do this when we first started accepting character claims. Mea culpa.
- We're gonna scrap the 2 OOC days = 1 IC day ratio mostly because it doesn't really matter at this point in the story. Haha For simplicity's sake, we're going to very vaguely handwave non-specific dates to make it easier for headcanoning any post-war gameplay.
- You can tag posts with your character's name if you'd like to keep track of posts you tag! This is not required and is only for your own use. We will also create tags every week, such as !week one, !week two, etcetera that you can use on your posts if you'd like. All mod posts will be tagged with !mingle, please do not use this tag otherwise.
- The network comm has two mingle posts up for use: IC Inboxes and Network Posts. These are optional for use if you don't want to make your own individual posts.
- And last but not least, there is a Quest Board for optional side plots you can play at any time. Check them out if you would like something other than the main events to play with in your sandboxing!
Awright, with that out of the way, on to the event!
WEEK ONE: The Travellers' Return
- Alfheim: Queen Skuld, now nearing the last few decades of her life, has taught the new generation of elves to spread the utmost respect and loyalty to Asgard and their Travellers as their most stalwart allies. They greet the Travellers like old friends, weaving flowers and feathers and strings of gold or beads around the Travellers' wrists and hair, then sitting them down for tea and stories and possibly cuddles.
- Vanaheim: The natives are more friendly than the Travellers may remember, but are still somewhat conservative as the slowest society to adapt to change. They bring gifts of literature and art and culinary delights, but are otherwise reserved in their pledge of thanks.
- Svartalfheim: The Dwarves, on the other hand, bring their hardest liquors and ales up from the deepest caverns of their ancient mountain to really get sloshed with their renowned heroes. This lot will party hard and welcome challenges of strength, wit, and mindlessly ill-advised drinking.
- Deep City: The Mermaid Queen Ran passed many years ago, but the Deep City never forgot the brave and kind acts of the Travellers during the war. The new Queen comes with a few escorts for only a couple of days, but they encourage people to come visit them soon to explore the newly settled waters of Yggdrasil's ocean.
- New civilizations are all over the place, new species and cultures born from the burst of life thriving across the worlds. If you can imagine them, they're coming to Asgard to marvel at the ones that made their very existence possible!
OPTIONAL CURSE: The Lighting of the Lanterns
Here's the fun part: the lanterns are, naturally, sprinkled with a bit of magic! They've been charmed by the gods and a variety of effects will take place if the lanterns are caught. You can choose from any of the following:
if a Traveller catches their own lantern
- The lantern will glow a near unbearable golden light when held in their hands, making them blink away for just one second; when they look back, there will be a small trinket mimicking something from home in their hands. Think like an action figure of your character's mech suit, or a plush that looks exactly like your character's dog. Little imitations of home!
- They will be flooded with a warm and happy feeling, perhaps even a physical sensation of pleasant tingling, and be overly affectionate and complimentary to those around them for the next hour. The Gods would like to remind citizens to cuddle responsibly!
- For an hour, Travellers will be granted the spark of inspiration that comes from their success in fostering life over death at the end of the worlds. Everything they touch will briefly light up with a soft glow for a few seconds, and if they touch a living creature, that creature will be inspired with a seemingly great idea and will act upon that impulse immediately. Be sure to plot impulses with your partner beforehand, as this is not mind control or an excuse for godmodding. It's simply giving people that gentle push to do something whimsical.
- The lantern will glow a bright, glaring red and the Traveller will not be able to let go until they hand the lantern to its rightful owner. If the rightful owner is not present in the game at the time or if they refuse to hand it over to the owner, they will have to seek out a God to remove the lantern for them and will summarily be teased mercilessly.
- The Traveller will immediately be compelled into being overtly apologetic, first releasing the lantern back into the sky and then apologizing to those they believe they have wronged for the next full hour before the compulsion wears off. Add another hour for every consecutive attempt to steal another lantern.
- The nun from Game of Thrones' season five finale will follow your character around, ringing a bell and shouting "Shame!" for an hour. She cannot be dodged and will even follow the Traveller into the restroom if they go within their hour of reprimand.
Once caught and the curse is in place, the lanterns will be released and continue to float around for the entirety of the festival, but will not have curse effects if the same lantern is caught a second time by the same person. On the seventh day, they will all float into the night sky to join the stars.
