MOD POST: MARCH EVENTS + ANNOUNCEMENTS
Hi guys! Tosshi here with a slightly late monthly rundown. Before I get to the events, I have a few announcements to make!
First, we have a few staff openings. There is an NPC up for grabs on the NC apps page, and we also need a few more app team members. If you'd like to be on the app team, please see this comment in this post for a form to fill out. Please note that app team members are partially chosen based on OOC attitude and whether we know you. App standards can vary wildly from person to person and app judging (especially when friends are involved) can involve discussions and disagreements, so we're only able to put people on the team that we're sure will work with our standards and get along with the whole team. This applies to the NPC team too to a lesser extent.
Second, almost all of the game info has slight updates. I've gone through and updated the flavor text to match the progress the game has gone through since opening and to clarify a few slightly confusing points (like hiatus options and canon updates). The only real change is that as of now, Loki's stupid-ass guide is now shown the first time a bracelet is turned on and can be accessed at any time by a link. You guys asked for it. ;) The plot GDOC has yet to be updated but will be very soon.
Third, a mod team change! After a year and four months of modding Asgard, I'm going to be stepping down from the mod team at the end of this month. It's been a great time and I love this game dearly, but I'm feeling a bit burnt out on modding it and would like to move on to a new project and you guys don't deserve my lag. The current rest of the team are really great people and have been doing the majority of the non-app work (mostly everything but the schedule and these plot posts tbh) lately, so I'm 100% confident that they'll do a great job without me! I'll be staying on with my NPCs and on the app team, as well as sticking around as a player. Also, for the rest of March please start directing comments/questions to the other mods or to the mod journal/email/plurk as a whole. I'm here to answer any world-building questions that you'd like clarified before I leave, but otherwise I'm going to be pretty much gone outside of running the plots this month. At the end of March I'll be completely off the team! Lastly, for now the current team is going to see how they fare on their own. If they need to open mod apps they'll do so at their own discretion. Thanks everyone for being such great players and making the game I created a wonderful experience!
Fourth, how are we doing? We'd like to ask you guys to use the discussion thread below to talk about how you think the game's going. What changes would you like to see? What systems do you like or dislike? Let's see what we can do to keep the game going strong!
Fifth, we're canceling the plan to have monthly Utgard logs. The first one was pretty much unused and we forgot the second, so there's not much point to them! Your characters can always go to Utgard whenever they like, so feel free to do your own open logs if you send someone!
And now onto the plots for March! You can see the calendar here as usual.
On Days 231-232 (March 8-11), there will be a festival to celebrate the coming of Spring and Yggdrasil's New Year. But even more amazingly will be life springing up where there was only death. At dawn of Day 231 (March 8), the dusty white field left from Freyr's explosion will suddenly burst into life, filling with thick grass and beautiful flowers. This flower field covers a circular area about half a mile in diameter that begins with grass at the Gate of Fire at the northern end of the City, turns into flowers 1/3 of the way out, and extends out North from there. In the afternoon a festival's worth of food stalls and entertainments will be laid out on the grassy area. The flowers full of glowing sap seen last year will be there again, growing up and wrapping in vines around the stalls. As before, the nectar of these flowers is a strong healing salve when applied topically and an all-purpose poison antidote when ingested. Nectar and cuttings may be taken for later! Food from home worlds will be available and the gods might even be in attendance themselves! The festival will continue throughout the night and the next day. Afterwards the glowing plants and the stalls will be taken away, but the field itself will remain in bloom.
Additionally, during the festival picking flowers might have some odd effects.
Characters can only get one flower each day. This means two flowers total! They can get the same flower twice in a row. Have fun!
Days 238-241 (March 22-28) will be the next part of the overarcing plot. This will include the expedition plot to get the information on saving Freyr as well as a side-plot in the city to open the central chambers of the library. Both plots are entirely opt-in!
On Day 238/March 22-23, characters who wish to go on the expedition will set off. They'll be taking one of the elves' floating trains to the fishing village of "Salt Side", and upon arrival in the evening will be put up in a cute seaside hotel. They'll be able to explore the village at leisure -- it's an old timey New England-type fishing town populated by a mix of humans, elves, and a type of creature that looks like humans with seaweed for hair and turns into sea lions at will.
The next day (Day 239/March 24-25) as preparations are made down below, the locals will throw a beach party! Swimming and BBQing will happen and the Lady of the Sea will be in attendance. She won't just be there for fun, however. Throughout the night she'll approach every Traveller and hand them a hemp-looking necklace which, when worn, will allow both breathing and free movement under water.
Meanwhile in Asgard, it's a stormy day. A few Travellers will recieve an anonymous text with the following message:
Should they investigate, they'll find that the guards on the central library chambers have indeed fallen into a deep sleep. The lock on the chamber will open for any Traveller who touches it with a strong will to get in. This will be the state of affairs all day. The knowledge contained in here is mostly boring history records, but it will confirm any history the gods have given them before as well as making everything on the world info faq IC knowledge. It will also reveal everything that's in the player version of the plot gdoc, which will be updated by the time this plot happens. Any character could get this message, so feel free to throw anyone you want into the log. The only requirement is that they're someone who would already really want to get into that room.
On Day 240/March 26-27, the expedition crew will be taken to the Deep City, the city of merpeople and water creatures. From there, they'll be escorted to the bottom of the massive whirlpool that is Mimisbrunnr. There, they'll find a cave with a shimmering membrane for a door. According to Ran, nothing of this world is able to pass that barrier. However, when they try the Travellers will find it to be much like soap bubble in texture, and it will let them right through. Inside there's air, and a long dark corridor going downward. Further details will be in the log for this event, but in short the Travellers will be able to safely obtain the information they need and, perhaps, a few other less important snippets. If there's anything you want your characters to find out (mostly confirmations of what was in Loki's story), direct it to the mod questions thread below.
Meanwhile in Asgard, there will be an NPC post announcing that since someone let a bunch of Travellers into the library, those chambers are now open permanently.
In the morning of Day 241/March28, the Travellers on the expedition will reboard their train and head home. One Traveller will then be asked to report to the gods. Sign up for that role by commenting to this thread in this post. We'll choose the character at random on the first day of the event. There are no sign-ups for the expedition, as whoever wants to may go. You can even handwave having gone if you really want to! Just remember that your character will be gone from the city the duration of that plot, so you can't do both the expedition and the library plot.
Please direct any questions to the appropriate mod questions threads below. Thank you!

Red Flowers will make your character want to burst into song for the duration of the day!
Pink Flowers will make your character feel like being mushy and fluffy with their loved ones all dauy. This won't change who they like, it'll only make them feel like showing them how much they're loved!
Yellow Flowers will make your character feel super competitive! They'll have the urge to best those around them at absolutely everything for the rest of the day.
White Flowers will grow a vine around the character's wrist. The next Traveller they touch will find the vines reaching for their wrist as well -- the two will be effectively handcuffed together til the end of the day!
Characters can only get one flower each day. This means two flowers total! They can get the same flower twice in a row. Have fun!
