MOD POST: JANUARY EVENTS + ANNOUNCEMENTS + REMINDERS
Hey, guys! I hope you had an awesome holiday season, but it's back to the grinder with you! We're trying out some new formatting for this post, as we're trying to find something that works a little better for everyone following some response we garnered on the mod HMD ( which is open pretty much forever, so feel free to drop us a line there if you'd like to crit something in the game! ), so please bear with any bumps or kinks and let us know what you think below. Before all that, though, some announcements and reminders to get this year rolling!
First of all, a reminder about our new policy regarding cast caps. We are now limiting casts to a maximum of 25 characters across all adjacent canons. This includes sequels or branch-off canons that are set within the same universe. If you feel an argument can be made for your series acting as a stand-alone canon, please contact us to discuss it! All casts maxed out or nearing the maximum will be listed on the reserves and applications pages.
Secondly, just a bit of house-cleaning type stuff. We're going to be doing a lot of renovations on our info pages because there are about eighty million of them and some of the information is now outdated. We want to clean things up to make navigating the game information a little bit easier, so if you have any questions / suggestions for the FAQ, let us know below. I may have as much fun making info pages as AJ does making lists, but they're meaningless if they don't help you out so let us know how we can make them best serve your needs!
Third, we are resuming the Holes events this month! For those of you new to the game or anyone that may have forgotten, the Holes events bring one canon feature from your character's home world permanently into the setting of the game. Track the !holes tag for more information on these events, and remember that we will do a RNG drawing every month to bring in something new, so submit your canon features today!
Lastly, but definitely not least of all, the results of the plot poll from earlier in the month! You all overwhelmingly voted for militarisation of the city by an 86 point margin, which means we will gradually be directing the plot towards Asgard's offense throughout Arc 4 and into Arc 5 and endgame. We've got a lot of cool things in store for you guys, so I hope you enjoy this final war of the worlds!
That said, let's get Arc 4 started with January's events! Your calendar is, as always, right over here, and as part of the new format we're attempting, we're putting a bulleted tl;dr summary of the events at the end of each mod post. To skip ahead to the fast facts, go ahead and click here.
This month starts Asgard's fourth story arc, affectionately entitled Yggdrasil's Collapse. The Norn have spoken, and through them, the Mother of All has made it known that her sickness has festered. The World Tree is rotting from the inside out, taking its creation with it in the fall. This turn of events was unprecedented by all; while the gods and Giants were busy warring with each other, they failed to pay mind to the footprints they left in the earth. There was once a chance for healing - but as the world begins its descent into ruin, it may be that time has past.
Now, things are in a state of disarray, and life within Yggdrasil is going to be changing in drastic and likely dangerous ways - not just for the Travellers in Asgard, but for all creatures across the whole of creation. Things are about to get crazy in here, guys, I hope you brought your towel.
PLOT EVENT: A Friend In Need ( Jan. 8-19 / Days 385-390 )
To launch Arc 4, we are bringing forth a potentially world-altering and high impact Traveller decision that will start the first inklings of the eventual militarisation. This event is largely geared towards PC involvement, which means the conclusion and its execution are going to rely on you in more ways than one. Before I get too far ahead of myself, though, let's dig into what's ahead.

- Day 385 ( Jan. 8/9 )
- Early in the morning, as the winter sun is still creeping its way above the horizon, any early risers might look outside to see what seems like snow falling in strange swirls. It doesn't quite follow the normal patterns of snowfall, and it sticks on anything it comes in contact with regardless of temperature.
You aren't going to want to catch this stuff on your tongue, because closer inspection will reveal that this odd precipitation is not snow at all, but rather ash blowing across the kingdom from the west. To reach this far, the flames must surely be intensely powerful - and so it is, with the Fire Giant invading Alfheim. Their home in Muspellheim has been near to completely devastated in the sudden eruption of the volcano at its centre, and Surt, knowing he stands no chance against the might of the gods in Vanaheim and too reliant on his alliance with the Dwarves in Svartalfheim, has led his army around Mirror Lake into the kingdom of the elves in search of new territory.
Towards noon this same day, a handful of riders will come barreling into the city through the Gate of Fog, followed closely behind by a single wagon full of injured elves. Odin's spies smuggled the Queen out of Alfheim before Surt could come for her head, and Skuld will head straight to the castle to seek refuge with the gods. As questions arise with little answers to be found, the natives and any Travellers willing to help will be left to aiding the injured towards the hospital while they wait for news of the distant fires. - Day 386 ( Jan. 10/11 )
- The next day, after a long discussion with Asgard's King and making herself presentable, Skuld will post to the network to explain the situation to the Travellers and plead for their aid. This is where the poll will come into play, as it will be up to the Travellers to decide whether to round up a defence and send the Travellers into Alfheim to force the Giants out of the forests or to set up refugee camps in Asgard and evacuate the elves from Alfheim - or to do nothing at all.
Every option has a long list of pros and cons, so what will be important to consider is the risks of the task against the benefits of its success. The poll is over here with a more detailed explanation of what each option entails. Please read through it carefully and ask us any questions you might have over there so we can help you decide which path to take as we move along this rocky state of affairs in Yggdrasil. This poll will be considered closed on January 5 at 11:59PM CST. - Days 387-390 ( Jan. 12-19 )
- The rest of this event will depend upon the player poll and will be announced on January 6 upon the conclusion of the poll. Keep an eye out for it!
- PLOT EVENT: A Friend In Need ( Jan. 8-19 / Days 385-390 )
- Day 385 ( Jan. 8/9 ): Ash rains from the skies. Skuld and a few guards ride to the castle while a wagon full of injured elves seek help from the hospitals.
- Day 386 ( Jan. 10/11 ): Skuld tells the Travellers that Alfheim is under siege by the Fire Giants and asks for their help.
- The player poll to determine which direction to take is here and closes on January 5.
- Days 387-390 ( Jan. 12-19 ): The next four days of the event will depend upon the player poll. Another plot post will go up on January 6 to detail the rest of the event.
- SPECIAL EVENT: TBA
- This event will be announced in the January 6 mod post.
SPECIAL EVENT: TBA
We'll announce this along with the conclusion of the plot event on the January 6 modpost, mostly because the nature of the event will depend largely on what you guys choose in the poll, but also because I think it'll be cleaner to have both events on one mod post rather than having to flip back and forth between the two. Stay tuned, folks, we'll have the rest of your events for you on the sixth!
FAST FACTS
That's it for now. The big one this month is just that poll, so make sure you read over it and vote here! Welcome to 2014, guys, we are so glad to have you with us for this new and final year. :)
