VISITOR'S EVENT INFORMATION
Asgard Eventide's Fourth Wall/Visitors Event Details and Planning Post!
June brings us Asgard's second Visitor's Event, open to the Dreamwidth RP community at large! This post will contain all of the information about the event itself, and the comments section will serve as planning and plotting for anyone interested in participating, even if you're not in the game at all. The Visitor's Event will run alongside a simple, small in-game event. Let's keep this easy and get on the road, and if this is your first foray into Asgard: welcome, Traveller, and good luck in the eventide.
- June 15-16 / Day 464:
- Not long after sunrise on Day 464, the air in the city will become briefly charged with magic. It will feel something like static electricity, hanging noticeably before dissipating suddenly a half-minute later. This will mark the beginning of the Visitor's Event! Starting then, characters old and new will begin to tumble into the city. They may appear anywhere there is room for them: in the middle of the street, on top of the Ferris Wheel in Hel's creepy amusement park, in the Comfort House, or ten feet in the air above the lake! Visitors may appear at any point during the duration of the event.
The city's natives will begin to usher them to the courtyard of the palace at the center of the city, where Freyr and the Welcoming Committee will have set up stations. This is where they will be given a bracelet to allow them to communicate with the network and reside safely in the city, provided with food and drink, and given camping supplies - basic tents and sleeping bags - if they choose to stay in the courtyard. - June 17-18 / Day 465:
- A minute after midnight, all characters in the city - including the freshly arrived Visitors - may notice something a little odd: a soft, warm glow through their shirts, right at the center of their chests. The light will fade, but it isn't quite finished yet. Starting then, threads of light with that same gold glow will lead from their wrists, beginning as intangible bracelets of light and leading them with anyone they have a "connection" with; what exactly that "connection" is is up to you! It could be romantic interest, or simply belonging to the same world, or sharing a favourite colour. Anything is viable, and they can have "connections" with as many or as few people as you'd like. The closer they get to the person they are bound to, the more brilliant the light. Physical touch will stop the light, and will also bring a sense of something like completion, contentment. When characters close their eyes, the glow of the strings is a soft, gentle one, akin to a nightlight.
The lights are not permanent, and seem to flicker to life and back off again arbitrarily. Your character may have one connection at noon that splinters to fifteen later that afternoon, and then none at all that night. Not all connections will always be "on," and you are welcome to play with this at your discretion! Please note: They will only ever be formed as a result of feelings your character already has - they will not create new ones.
That night, in the Castle Courtyard, Freyr will build an enormous, contained bonfire beneath the Great Oak Tree Merlin planted during an earlier celebration. Things may be rationed, but modest snacks and drinks will still be provided. He will encourage storytelling, games and riddles, and a general welcoming, since who knows how long these new Visitors will be here for, right? Mellow gold lights in the same shade as the ties between the Travelers and Visitors, among other things, will decorate the area to give it a sense of warmth and peace. - June 19-20 / Day 466
- Day 466 brings a gentle rain onto the city. Awnings and canopies will be set up in the castle courtyard for shelter, and the Welcoming Committee will continue to operate the bracelet and supply stations for any latecoming Visitors. That evening, a god will make a post to the network, giving notice that the Visitors will soon be sent home, so that people should say their goodbyes. After the given time, they will flicker and then disappear. The strings of light between people will begin to fade at this time as well, a gentle tapering off for a few hours until they are gone for good.
Some quick notes and guidelines for visitors:
- What sorts of characters are allowed:
Asgard is a panfandom game allowing for fandom and original characters. We do allow personal OCs and canon AUs (such as Cloud in Kingdom Hearts vs Cloud in Final Fantasy VII.) We do not allow canon OCs or personal AUs. Duplicates of characters currently in game ARE also allowed, since the magic pulling characters in is going a little haywire. Things like that are to be expected! Characters who have been in the game previously are welcome to remember their stay before or to have forgotten it, at your discretion. - The bracelets:
Visiting characters will be given simple silver bracelets with gray stones that will temporarily (and safely) tether their soul to Asgard. They will be able to comment to network posts made on the main community AND to other characters' IC inboxes. They will not, however, be able to make their own posts. If your character turns it on, they will be greeted with Loki's stupid guide, and then given access to the network. A full bracelet overview is here for those who want more information, but they work as a standard communication device capable of video, audio, and text. - The fourth-walling policy:
No personal journals or explicit fourth-wall breaking. This is more of an IC Visitor's Event and less than a true "fourth wall," so everything that happens in this will become and remain game canon! - Non-human characters and characters with canon powers/technology:
Please keep in mind the rules about humanization of non-human characters, such as sentient animals and robots, and rules about character powers. Asgard is a power-loss game, where characters lose their powers and gain new ones granted by the gods. Visitors in the event won’t have a certain god house or power (unless they app in!), so they will be depowered for the duration of the event.
Characters that own and keep technology on them are welcome to bring it with them! Just keep in mind that technology a) of internet/network access and b) is limited to what is available in the modern world. If your character owns a supercomputer laptop, it will revert to just having normal laptop capabilities when brought to Asgard! - Other important links & information:
Characters will not be sorted into a god house or given powers. Their souls will not be tethered here through the gods like permanent characters. Instead, the stones will simply be gray. If you decide to app in one of the upcoming rounds, you're more than welcome to have your character remember this event. Finally: Here's some supplemental information in case you want to read up a little more on the game: premise, game rules, and FAQs.
Fast Facts Summary:
- June 15-16 / Day 464:
- Visitors event! New characters show up and are set up in the castle courtyard with bracelets and sleeping bags.
- June 17-18 / Day 465:
- Strings of gold light link characters with connections to each other. They flicker on and off and get brighter the closer those connected are. Also, Freyr has a giant bonfire in the courtyard for s'mores and storytelling.
- June 19-20 / Day 466:
- The welcoming committee sets up shelters in the courtyard to fend against the gentle day-long rain. A god will post to the network warning characters that the Visitors will soon be leaving and to get their goodbyes in. After they leave, the connecting lights fade completely.
And that's it! Please feel free to use the comments section here for plotting and enabling: it's open to everyone considering coming to play in this year's Visitors Event. There will be headers for mod questions, so if you have one that we didn't answer, or simply need clarification on something, we'd be happy to help!
