asgarddawning | PLOT EVENT: THE MESSENGER FROM THE FIRST GATE

Hey, Asgardians!

I'm sure your characters have all been wondering what their real purpose is. They can't just be here to make things pretty, right? After all, their letters did mention "the fate of all existence."

Day 28 at sunset (so right now as of this post), the temperature will go from frigid to nearly summer warm all at once. Accompanying that will be a few strange sights -- the sky will turn dark, covered in black clouds that hide a reddish light. Everything will be cast in dull red, with no sign of the usual moon or stars.

After an hour or so, a booming voice will sound out over the entire city:

"The King of Muspellheim has spoken. He has seen your treacherous actions, and his decision is war. Beware, for Ragnarok, the End of Days, is upon you. Your time is past. All who dwell under the reign of these "Gods" will die."

After this, a shadow will drift over the city -- the speaker is a large, blood red dragon, and though he won't land to fight, he will breathe a bit of fire. Characters are welcome to attack him if they can manage anything that'd reach, but his response will mostly be to either use his firebreath or just fly higher above the city. He'll circle the city for another hour or so, focusing on the castle, which will have begun to glow with a faint white light. There's communication going on between him and the Gods, but it won't be audible to mortal ears.

When the dragon leaves, there will be a few small fires throughout the districts which will be put out relatively easily with just garden hoses and bucket chains. There may be some injuries though, so be careful!

The skies will stay dark and red and the temperature will stay warm for the remainder of the night, clearing up in the morning (12:01am CST on 01/29). Be on the lookout for a possible statement from a god or two in the next few days!

This is the hugest longshot in the history of mankind, but I was pondering ways the Freya kids might get a leg up on this madness. Would Freya housemates who get up on the dragon be able to temporarily power-jack it (and pass it on to others they're fighting with?)

VALID POINT, my compadre. I think the Freya kids powers can't kill anything until level 3, AND I doubt even with power boosts, the fire damage would do all that much. I think if anything, mods willing it, jacking from enemies would probably just allow Freyans to give energy boosts to others for more power uses.

All long shots! But it was worth throwing it out there and figuring out the parameters of our powers.

They would be able to steal energy from it, yes! :) The dragon doesn't necessarily have to be killed for this plot (and it wasn't the original intention), but their powers will work on it and if they really try they might be able to!

The only issue is the getting to it and staying on it. The forcefield that keeps Travellers within the city is still in effect, so if the dragon just flies up above it, everyone will be knocked off, and he's likely to do so if he gets significantly injured.

... so, how about talking to the dragon mo_om how would people go about that?

While the dragon is overhead it's going to be trying to have a conversation with the gods on a frequency beyond human hearing, so it isn't likely to stop that in order to converse with someone else, especially since a lot of people will be attacking it! :( So having a convo with it isn't going to be able to happen. He'll be trying to ignore the puny mortals and all.

Can characters find regular guns in asgard?

yes! Any weapon that could be found in a modern day first-world country for average consumer purchase will be available just as easily in asgard, and non-firearm weapons of good quality are actually more common! :)

Quick question! Since this came up in a thread, I just need to make sure it's okay to set up a temporary healing station at the Folkvang Comfort House in Freya, seeing as they have beds and the like that would be useful in dealing with any wounded.
