SPECIAL EVENT: Putting the "Fun" Back in "Funeral" ( Mar. 9-12 / Days 415-416 )

This is a player plot from Smurf ( [personal profile] morethanadream ); after having several festivals and events to honour the sacrifices the Travellers have made for the war, Sandy thought there should be one held for the natives that have given theirs lives and do not have the good fortune of being resurrected the way the Travellers do. He approached the gods and asked them to hold a memorial following their own customs and, in light of their own recent losses, the gods agreed to do just that.

Day 415 ( Mar. 9/10 )
The first thing the Travellers will see when they activate their bracelets in the morning is a mass text sent from the gods.
In commemoration of the new year and in remembrance of the last, we welcome all of Asgard to join us as we celebrate the lives lost throughout this war. We will gather today in Gefion Park at sunset. Feel free to bring any tokens or belongings you wish to send with your farewells.
A somber note, to be sure, but it is something to bring the city together after now two years of constant turmoil. All NPC shops will be closing down for the memorial service.

Just before sunset, all of the gods and several hundred natives will be gathered around the lake, with Thor at the forefront. The newly crowned Prince Regent will give a short speech before inviting people to lay their offerings into a longboat shored not far away. Natives will place clothes and food and other trinkets inside the boat, and after giving the Travellers time enough to lay their own if they have any, Hel will send the boat off to the center of the lake, where it will subsequently burst into flame. Smaller, match-sized flames will light all across the lake, one for every native soul that has left Asgard for Niflheim in the last two years, and they will not extinguish even in the light rainfall that begins into the evening.

After the flames are lit, however, the natives will be opening several dozen casks of different wines, meads, and ales. There will be bottles of harder liquors passed around and glasses given freely to anyone within arm's reach of a native. Time for a bonfire in the park! Anything is free game for this: there will be dancing, eating, body painting, the weaving of flowers into people's hair or into crowns, pretty much anything that is loose and vaguely intimate. The only thing that remains undisturbed is the lake, where the fires burn ceaselessly above the water. This is their farewell; they will drink, tell stories, and laugh their way all through the night.

Day 416 ( Mar. 11/12 )
The next morning, most of the natives will still be in the park, making sure none of that pesky alcohol remains in those barrels. They will take this second day to relax and clean up the park while they continue to drink, singing hymns and generally lending a hand to one another. Where yesterday was a big party, this is more like communal R&R. Everyone is on equal footing and gathered to respect their loved ones. For the time being, nothing else really matters.

They'll go back to their regularly scheduled monotony by sundown, the boat of offerings finally removed from the lake, though the candlelight flames will remain throughout the night and disappear by sunrise. In thanks for their support and continued sacrifice, the Travellers will find one gift from home in their rooms at midnight. There will be a top-level comment for gift approvals below!

PLOT EVENT: Burning Bridges ( Mar. 21-30 / Days 421-425 )

This month's plot event seeks to emphasise the ever-present threat of war and the crumbling balance of what little structure may once have existence. Involvement in the combat is purely optional and the amount of response will influence the state of things moving forward. A player poll to determine the outcome is over here.

Following their defeat in Alfheim, the desperate Fire Giants sought refuge with the closest thing they have to an ally in Yggdrasil and made way to Thrymheim in a sad bid for assistance. Fire creatures in a kingdom of ice, however, is precisely as disastrous as it sounds; this, paired with the broken alliance following A House Divided and Thiazi's most recent public humiliation, is more than enough reason for an embarrassed and indignant Frost Queen to blame the Flame King for everything wrong in her life. Not only is their bid for aid vehemently denied, but war is declared between the two Giant factions. Thiazi seeks to force the Fire Giants back from whence they came - but when the distance between Thrymheim and Muspellheim is the stretch of Asgard, this battle is one that may have dire consequences for the Holy City.

War is, quite literally, hanging over their heads, and with the gods spread thin to cover Odin's absence, it may be that the best the Travellers can do is simply hold on.

Day 421 ( Mar. 21/22 )
All throughout the day, the inhabitants of the Holy City will occasionally hear low rumbling sounds not unlike the beginnings of an earthquake, but nothing shakes or stirs beyond the quiet trickle of rain for most of the day. However, as the rain picks up and blots out the sunset, the rumbling grows louder just before a rift opens in the ground. Though it's not terribly deep, the split is two feet across at its widest and travels several hundred yards, starting from beneath the city wall at the corner of the Thor district and moving quickly into Loki's district. The ground nearby shifts somewhat with it and any buildings unfortunate to be affected will start to sink into the gap.

Any shouts of surprise or cries for help from this tear in the earth will be short lived, however, as large shards of ice begin to rip through the wall in various places throughout Sigyn and Hel's districts, piercing holes into anything - and anyone - in their path before shattering or melting. These are not directed or precise by any means; they fly in random places at random times. It may very well seem like the least coordinated attack ever and the Giants have really lost their game, but as the rumbling reaches its loudest peak, a burst of flame far outside the city wall may hint that it is not an attack at all. At least, not one intended for the Travellers.

To the east of the city, not nearly far enough from the thick wall that separates Asgard from the rest of Yggdrasil, a massive battle between the Frost Giants and the Fire Giants is being waged. What splinters off and reaches the city is purely by accident; collateral damage, as it were.

The shattering of rock and the splintering ice as well as bursts of flame and cracking of trees can be heard all throughout the night as more debris and stray projectiles find their way over the city wall. This can be anything from more needles of ice and much smaller cracks in the ground to flaming stones and sheets of hail. For now, these will remain small things that come over the wall rather than through it, but feel free to play around with what exactly comes your way.

Day 422 ( Mar. 23/24 )
The battle continues on into the next day, and by early morning, the city guard will ride through the city to alert everyone as to what's happening beyond the gates. From what they can see, Thiazi's army is pushing Surt's back and away as the Fire Giants attempt to encroach forward. They know of little else, but the battle is coming closer and closer to the city, which means the collateral damage will continue to worsen.

This is where the decision whether or not to fight will come in! The decision will be left to the Travellers in whether they ride out to force the Giants out of Asgard's land or simply bunker down and wait out the war. All action and inaction comes with a list of pros and cons, so consider it carefully before making your decision. The poll to decide what to do is over here and closes on March 15.

Days 423-425 ( Mar. 25-30 )
The rest of the plot will depend on the player poll, so another mod post with the next three days of the event will go up thereafter. Stay tuned!

FAST FACTS

SPECIAL EVENT: Putting the "Fun" Back in "Funeral" ( Mar. 9-12 / Day 415/416 )
  • Day 415 ( Mar. 9/10 ): The Travellers receive a mass text on their bracelets:
In commemoration of the new year and in remembrance of the last, we welcome all of Asgard to join us as we celebrate the lives lost throughout this war. We will gather today in Gefion Park at sunset. Feel free to bring any tokens or belongings you wish to send with your farewells.
Later that day, the natives and the gods will be in Gefion Park with copious amounts of free drink and food as lights are lit across the lake for every fallen native. It's basically a giant bonfire party.
  • Day 416 ( Mar. 11/12 ): The natives spend the next day cleaning, resting, and singing hymns across the park whilst still indulging in food and drink, though it's a lot more subdued. The gods leave gifts from home for the Travellers at midnight in thanks for paying their respects.

PLOT EVENT: Burning Bridges ( Mar. 21-30 / Days 421-425 )
  • Day 421 ( Mar. 21/22 ): A large crack splits the street from Thor's district into Loki's. Shards of ice start piercing through buildings haphazardly. Random bombardments of shrapnel and debris keep raining down upon the city throughout the night.
  • Day 422 ( Mar. 23/24 ): War is confirmed between the Frost Giants and the Fire Giants just outside Asgard's walls. The decision to move forward is left in the hands of the Travellers.
    • The player poll to determine which action to take is here and closes on March 15.
  • Days 423-425 ( Mar. 25-30 ): The rest of the plot will depend on the player poll, so another mod post with the next three days of the event will go up thereafter. Stay tuned!

And that's March for you! Stay tuned for more on the plot event, remember to vote in the poll, and prepare your Sunday best for the funeral. As always, feel free to use this as a plotting post for your characters. Let us know if you have any questions / comments / concerns / dirty jokes!

Putting the "Fun" Back in "Funeral": Malekith will not be in attendance, because... well, Malekith. I'm not beyond having him ruminate with others of a like mind over the futility of such traditions, though, haha. So if anyone wants that kind of thing...

Burning Bridges: Malekith lives in Hel district, so I am more than happy to take advantage of the random ice scenario with others feeling so inclined! I'm not really interested in Malekith receiving any kind of substantial damage from it, but am not opposed if it happens to someone else in thread.

As for giants, I am tentatively thinking that I want Malekith in the fray, because he can't just ignore every major battle (because that is boring), but it'd be neat if he goes into it with motives unclear. Will have to play this one by ear.

Joffrey won't exactly be paying his respects but he'll be taking as much food and drink as he can because what is actually working to get money and buy food??

He'll also be pretty useless no matter what option is picked, probably trying to avoid getting hurt (and pretending it's because he doesn't care about this war and not because he's a huge coward) and complaining about the situation. Good job gods you really recruited a winner here.
dishonouring: it stopped being funny about five minutes after you started (stop asking if i'm burning for you)

Moran will be attending the party because yes booze wow. He might not be especially respectable, but what do you expect from a drunk Victorian? He'll be all up on the giants, as always. He's always up for that. Maybe I'll have him die this time. He's stupid and he does stupid things. He's due a stupid death.

Rory will likely tail along to the funeral, but he won't be too party-hardy about it. It's a funeral, guys. No matter how party-like it may be, it's difficult to be cheery when the title of funeral is hanging over your head. For the burning bridges event, he'll just be doing his same old healing dealio.

Jorah will turn up at the funeral/party to pay his respects and snag some free food, but he's not one for the party angle and he'll likely try to slip out early. He will be helping out for the burning bridges event as best he can.

Jack will attend because YES drinks and partying, these are two of his favorite things in the world ever. Most likely he'll end up with lots of paint on him and flowers in his hair and whatever else. Oh, and lots of singing.

Burning Bridges
He's very much in the camp of Let's Not Fight. Where did that ever get anyone?

Kate will go to the funeral, but she won't be getting particularly drunk. Not her style.

For everything else, she will be about, helping where she can.

And of course, she's open to all kinds of CR, old and new!

Maglor will be at the wake/funeral/party-thing, and likely be horribly depressed the whole time unless Elrond drags him off and gets him drunk. This will be helped by the fact that his gift is a bottle of Dorwinion, which in his canon is one of the few things strong enough to get elves drunk (it is, apparently, the best wine in Middle Earth) and he's got a human tolerance level right now. Come drink with them? Alternatively he has loads of laments he can sing...

Everything else... well, he's likely to throw himself into battle hahah sob, but he takes direction pretty well when he's sane.

HERMIONE will be attending the funeral and paying her respects. She's still a little shaky because of the last fight so she'll be there saying farewell. She won't be drinking, though, but she will have some food and she'll enjoy the bonfire and probably hang out with a lot of her current CR. When it comes to the fighting she'll try for a passive approach but will do whatever she can to help once the fighting is actually started (she's level two fire magic, so she'll do what she can).

JOEL will enjoy the party, drink a little, show off his bad ass robot arm and probably keep a close watch on Ellie if she's not doing anything. He might have a new attachment to his arm if Booker lets him, so he'll use that in the fighting as well as his shadow control (which he uses to operate his arm) and his arsenal of guns and weaponry. Passiveness isn't his forte; aggressive action is Joel's name.

HAWKE will enjoy the festivities as best she can! It's been a long time since she'll been able to knuckle down and drink without any worries, so she'll enjoy that. She'll also use the funeral as time to mourn her mother, brother, father and sister as well as all the people Anders killed that fell victim to the endgame of Dragon Age 2. As for the fighting; she'll be right in the middle of it with her greatsword no matter what happens, using her Strength powers for Good.

RENLY will be following Loras around and enjoying a little drink here and there and getting rather put out at being given his crown when he knows he's no longer a king :T he doesn't really like warfare (at least, taking part in it, disliking blood and all) so he might attempt to be some form of tactician or leader... But otherwise he'll hang back and make sure Loras and Margaery are safe.

And that's that! If you want anything in particular hit me up and we can plot how to ruin our characters lives together c:

irene will be enjoying the festivities, observing the solemnities and lingering around, hoping to catch a glance of people from home (aka stalking anyone who might recognize her and vice versa). she hasn't lost anyone in the city, so she's not going to add anything the boat; she'll purely be observing and there for the people-watching.

burning bridges
irene is in baldr, so will be set a bit far from all of the huge cracks and ice. however, once things start raining down on the street, she'll be forced out and attempt to find shelter somewhere as well as figure out what the hell is going on. she doesn't have a combat power (just regeneration), so she's in a good amount of danger and very aware of it - especially since she's not currently armed. anyone want to shelter her, or just try and find a strategic place to hide?

natasha is going to be hanging out at the funeral, looking particularly solemn (what else is new) and mostly spying out for loki, because wow, that jerk. she'll probably leave before the partying starts in earnest so if you want your character to notice her leaving or being gone, feel free to drop me something here and we can figure it out!

burning bridges
natasha is in loki district (for the moment) and unless that changes, she'll be very much alarmed by the presence of a really annoying fire gap. she'll be checking on people she cares about and her students - elizabeth, pyro, the avengers, avenger girlfriends, connor - and trying to keep people out of the way of debris and pretending that she's not actually helping anyone.

MORGANA PENDRAGON ||

Morgana will go to the funeral but keep to the edges, being somewhat gloom herself. if anyone would like to keep her company in her little corner of gloom, you're all very welcome!!

for the battle, I think she'll definitely go and fight the giants to let off steam!

JAMIE MORIARTY ||

Jamie is going! or, more accurately, Rosalyn would be there but she won't drink much. she'd mostly be very kind and sympathetic so whoever wants to meet her it will be just fine. if anyone wants to catch her and talk to her as moriarty, that's just fine too, just lemme know!!

she'll be popcorn.gif during the event, more than happy to see the giants kill each other. tea in the park, anyone?

REGINA MILLS |

Regina will hang around, only to kill time but I'd like for her to form some conversations during the time, so consider her there. she won't drink because evil queens don't do alcohol :>

as for the event, I think she'll observe the battle from a safe distance. not having her magic she'd not run in and it's a chance to see the giants at work, so she'll watch from afar and get herself updated on everything.

[personal profile] tradire 2014-03-02 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Putting the "Fun" Back in "Funeral":
Loki will be in attendance. He doesn't really care much about anyone else, but will be honoring his mother instead. Silently. ( Mostly, he'll just be pretending he's in his own Asgard and that he was invited to his own mother's funeral. No bitter grudges, though. ) Outside of that, he will sparingly take part in activities and will not be in the mood for any funny business.

Burning Bridges:
Not entirely sure what he will be doing for this part yet. Besides blaming any and all Thor's for the rift, for starters. Otherwise, he won't be caring too much and won't want to help in any single way. However, I do sort of want him to get involved because he has to, but I'm still sort of rolling over a couple of ideas for that. Reluctantly saving someone is also a thing that might be hilariously fun. Because he'd hate it and himself for doing it and putting him out of his comfort zone is A+.

So, basically, what it boils down to is if you'd like Loki for any specific thing, please feel free to contact me. I'd love to work something out.

;_; / funeral days

Thor's got a few dead to mourn, so I think he'll be staying out of people's way for a change on this particular occasion and doing his grieving. He'll probably only attend the celebrations in passing.

Burning Bridges

REGARDLESS OF THE POLL RESULTS (ho ho ho), Thor's been looking into how in Odin's name to level up their defences, and it took a gd mushroom for him to realise, wah, a couple of bloody plant hippies could totally build them a thorny or poison ivy wall during attacks. This and the general construction of watch towers is something he'd like to bat his lashes at relevant people until they decide to help him out with.

SO, with that in mind:

i. calling all Growth users and energy lenders of any kind - if your character's got one of these abilities and you'd like to get them involved in potentially raising some walls, let me know. I'm happy to declare war on their inboxes and have Thor come a-beggin'.

ii. watch tower building: pretty much what it says on the tin, if you think your character'd love some manual labour, er. Well. Come on, guys, it's for a good cause. T_T b

KAWORU

Funerals and sadness with booze
I plan to get Kaworu drunk during this. For the very first time ever :D Which means Kaworu will care even less (gasp!) for personal space, and there is a chance he will be hugging people, kissing their cheeks and telling them he loves them and they are worthy of love. Because Kaworu. And the day after he will have the worst hangover and it'll be terrible.

Anyone up for some shenanigans?

Burning Bridges
As usual the angel lets everyone else decide and he goes along with whatever decision. He is level 3 healer and will be around to help!

SATAN
I have nothing planned for Satan, but he will be around during the funeral celebration. Not right in the middle of it, mostly over some corner where he won't be bothered. He just wants to watch.

As for the battle, he will be popcorning.gif and hoping Asgard gets involved. Probably trying to incite them to do just that. Kill the giants, rise hate, get screwed by giants and mayhem and blood and guts HELL YES HAIL SATAN.

AME
I have nothing planned for Ame either! Not for the funerals neither the battle. He will not go into battle, but he will stay in the city helping.

fun in funeral

The message will undoubtedly bring back memories of the losses Sif suffered through in her world, so her celebration will be subdued this time. It will not be a feast to celebrate a victory, but paying respect to the dead. She may be found, however, if your characters would like to see her a little more melancholy than they're ready for. If they get her at the right time, she can even talk about how great Frigga was.

burning bridges

There are times when Sif does not jump into the battle like a woman possessed, and this will be one of them. She is disappointed by how fragile to attacks Asgard can be from time to time, so she will be actively helping to keep it safe while the war between the giants it held. But coming where she comes from and all, Sif will just think: if two of your enemies are fighting, let them take each other out and if you must, THEN ride in to raze those left. (She can be more ruthless than others in battle, sry2say).

Anything from her helping in scattered battles in the city, to building up defenses and discussing strategy. OOCLY, I have to confess myself sometimes overwhelmed by the amount of backstory that goes into the war against Thiazi, so please don't judge me if I end up asking you a billion ooc clarifications, and Sif asks her own IC clarifications as well. Considering that she has experience with Frost Giants (no, not the midget one), she'll not ride straight at them.

The Fun in Funeral: Ninian will be around, but she'll likely be reminded of the Scouring and what just took place in Elibe before being taken here. So she will be as quiet and reserved as always, with the only exception being anything related to dancing: since she's good at it and in her mind dancing may be a way to honor the dead, she'll join in at some point. And then return to her quiet corner when the dancing mood wears off.

Burning Bridges: Ninian is in Sigyn House so -- WELP. She might get caught in the middle of a big mess, and unless she gets hit by one of these spears (pretty likely, sob), she will do what she can to deliver help and healing to whoever needs it.

So! Open to all kinds of CR here, just hit me up. =3

Putting the fun back into funeral

He may go and drop some kind of drawing or craft into one of the small pyre boats to pay his respect for those who are gone.
As for the gifts, I never know what to get Leo in these gift from home events. What do you get for a guy who can create anything he wants himself? I am tempted to say one of his paintings but why would he bring one to Asgard? If I think of something I might ask for it, otherwise he will end up with nothing.

Burning Bridges

What he will do will be largely dependent on the poll, I think, but, he will try to act as support for what ever is decided. If there is any way to help fortify Asgard against the giants or create a machine of some kind for added chaos in the battle he'd be there.

Joseph will probably end up going to the funerals himself if only out of respect, plus hey, free chance to party. He'll more than likely bum around and talk with people, get drunk, and have a bit of fun. Nothing too big. Maybe do a couple of parlor tricks for fun.

As for the battle, seeing as he lives in Loki, he might be dragged into it whether he wants to be or not. He'll do what he can to slow down enemies, whether through his powers or good old-fashioned trickery. If anyone wants to plot anything specific out, let me know! I plan on trying to reach out for new CR over the next week or so before work gets really nuts with one of our stores moving.

Given that he's new, I'm pretty open to anything. He'll be paying respects because he's uh pretty familiar with death and he'll be totally into the rituals.

Oberyn will also want to get into the thick of battle, but I'm not sure how? His power for Freya is charm-based and I don't think he's quite discovered it yet so it would be a good time to discover that level 1 power! Other than that I'm open for anything.

Also he'll be willing to slap sense into people because c'mon you guys and he'd charge into battle and lead if need be.

annabeth will be going to the funeral, because it's the respectful sort of thing to do and because she's horribly curious about viking burial traditions obviously (although she'll probably be skirting around the edges and mostly observing)

she doesn't know many people yet, but the offer for greek burial shrouds is open if anyone would like her to contribute one (or more??), since that's a tradition where she's from

she'll be sticking around for the party, and drinking a little because i'm planning to have her arachne nightmares come back a bit sporadically and she'll want to get rid of those - not too much drinking though because even if it is a celebration of life, that's irresponsible

re: fighting, wow she is so over angry shards of ice at this point, but she will probably lend herself to the fight - or try to, if i've injured her a bit before it takes place

burning bridges something something oh look it's a war and she has no strategy? she didn't work quick enough but she will definitely be looking around and wanting to do something. only level 1 ice powers so she might need a hand but she wants to do things!!!

gift from home i'm thinking her puppy prada but that's my first thought and i have no other thoughts. unless i go something tragic (can you say winter formal dress?? tho i did that last time i was here) or one of her nematon drawings
