OCTOBER EVENTS + ANNOUNCEMENTS
Hey all! It's Faith here, and it's been two months since my last rundown post, so please forgive any mistakes and inevitable tl;dr. Let's do this!
First, a warm and hearty welcome to Ana, Maddie, Toss, and TJ who joined the NPC helper team with Heimdall, Skuld, Ran, and Surt respectively! Look out for the first three in this month's special event as all of Asgard's friends come to hang out! Surt isn't invited because he's a jerk. Thanks for joining us, guys!
Second, last month's Holes event introduced Swear Toads that can now be found hopping around the lake in Gefion Park, swearing rudely in various languages. Thanks to Ryuuto for the submission! Remember that we will be introducing a new item or feature from canon worlds every month, so submit your canon features in the appropriate comment section below and track the !holes tag for more information on these plots!
And that's it for this month! After the beast that was September's plot, we're making October a little less plot heavy and lot more silly with a player plot and optional plot for later in the month. As always, your schedule can be found here!
At the very start of the month, Asgard is going to be visited by a few party crashers! Those of you that went to Vanaheim might remember Mimir and Honir, the gods that currently reside in Vanaheim as part of the peace agreement that traded their places with Freyr and Freya. Honir was delighted to meet some of the Travellers and wanted to see the rest of them; Mimir humours Honir ( read as: he's a pushover ).
The god of travel, eager to make their triumphant return to their homes after several thousand years away, also heard how difficult a time the Travellers had last week, and has thusly gone maybe a bit overboard in the celebrations. From Days 338-343 ( Oct. 8-17 ), there will be a five-day, all-night festival in the castle courtyard! NPCs will be setting up booths for food and attractions and all of the gods will be about as well! And I do mean all of the gods; Honir sent messages to all of Asgard's friends and allies to invite them into the Holy City for the biggest party of the year. Friends from out of town will be about as well as Asgard's Nine, so keep an eye out for your ( mostly ) benevolent world leaders!
For this festival, we are leaving things as open ended as possible and welcoming players to set up their own main attractions and featured events. For example, Rise Kujikawa will be hosting a dating auction! Sign-ups will ICly open on the first day of the event ( Oct. 8/9 ) and the dates will take place on the last day of the event ( Oct. 16/17 ). OOC sign-ups are open from now until Oct. 7 over here. We will make a directory for all of the player-run events so if you plan on hosting something, please respond to the top-level comment below so we can get you listed!
There will also be different themes for every day of this festival! Characters are by no means obligated to follow these themes but they may get popcorn thrown at them for being spoilsports. The themes for each day are as follows:
But not entirely just yet. Before dawn on Day 346 ( Oct. 24 ), an odd red light will appear in the sky in the general direction of Muspellheim. It's not the sun rising early and it's not a glow cloud, just a single, large streak across the sky that might look like a crack. Seconds after it appears, a rumbling sound will accompany a small earthquake that might break a few dishes or rattle anything not secured off of its perch, nothing terribly destructive. The earthquake lasts about three minutes.
From this point onward, all living creatures in Asgard will be mute. Can't even shout, can't even cry; the Gentlemen are coming by.
That's right! For our faux-Halloween event, we have a player plot from Buffy Summers (
called ). Those of you that aren't familiar with Buffyverse, Awbrey did an awesome job of explaining the Gentlemen in her plot request here and there is a wiki page on them here. Alternatively, you can watch the episode on Netflix! It's season 4, episode 10, entitled Hush. Basically, the Gentlemen steal the voices of everyone within range of their spell and then go around collecting hearts at night while no one can scream to let people know they're, y'know. Being killed horribly by monsters. Fun! They can be defeated, however, by breaking the box that holds everyone's voices and screaming in the presence of all seven Gentlemen at once.
Surt, having realised just how much Thiazi is acting without him, decided to pull his own little stunt by bringing in something horrible from one of the Travellers' worlds just to prove he's still a player in the war. Fortunately, Surt is also an idiot. Magic is not his strong point, and his spellwork to summon the Gentlemen is very crude and roughshod, based more on pure malevolent intent than actual skill. This means that the way the Gentlemen manifest in Asgard is a little bit different from Buffyverse canon.
There will still be seven of them and they will still go after seven victims, but they will only claim two hearts a night until the third night. On Day 348 ( Oct. 28/29 ), they will attempt to claim the last three hearts and will successfully get the first two. Before they can harvest the last one, however, the spell will be broken by the Travellers.
Instead of just one box containing the voices, there will be one box hidden in all nine districts. Travellers will have to work together to destroy them all; the last one will be found and broken right before the last victim can be killed. When the boxes are destroyed, they will release everyone's voices and the screams of their victims, which will ring throughout the entire city and explode the Gentlemen's heads. It will be messy and gross and the gods are so not cleaning up this one.
Some basic plot notes to explain how this will work!
OPT-OUT FOR THE GENTLEMEN PLOT
Because we don't want everything to be awful forever, we're giving a super light-hearted and fun opt-out option for this plot to spare people another dose of horror. At some point during the festival, Honir will be telling Aladdin (
snugglesjugs ) about a cute little encampment of humans that live on the edge of Asgard's territory outside of the city. Aladdin will spread the word but you don't need to be shaded in ICly if you don't want to; Honir will also be excitedly leaving a trail in the dirt leading towards the camp that lights up with a dim purple colour when you look at it. Anyone and everyone is welcome to notice the path and follow it as they please.
In order to avoid the Gentlemen plot, however, all characters opting out will have to leave on Day 345 ( Oct. 22/23 ). I'm too lazy to rewrite this so I'm just gonna c/p the write-up I gave Dawn when she asked for some world-buildy travel things.
An optional mini-plot for this event ( cw: uninformed psuedo-drug use ): the first night in the encampment, the residents will cook up a modest feast for their guests and serve a special tea to anyone that wants it! This tea will have a mild hallucinogen in it that is also magical in nature: ten minutes after drinking the tea, Travellers will notice a glowing spectre nearby in the shape of an animal. Think like Harry Potter-verse patronuses, it'll be an animal that represents the character's true nature and will follow them around for the duration of the trip, kind of like their own personal daemon. Only the people that drank the tea can see them, and the daemons can mingle with each other the way their owners would without any of their inhibitions. For example, the daemon of someone that is hiding the fact that they like someone else might follow and rub noses with the daemon of the person that they like. The daemons will not be physical and cannot be touched by living creatures; they're basically light distortions. The tea will wear off by the time they leave on Day 348.
A catch-all log will go up for this log as well! We're trying to have minimal mod involvement so we'll leave NPCing the hippiefolk up to you guys.
And that's it for the month! I say as though this isn't a monstrously long post. Remember to fill out September AC and meet some new people on the Test Drive Meme. Leave any questions/comments/concerns in the comments section below and have a great October, guys!

There will be a catch-all log for this event with top-level headers for each day but you guys are welcome to make your own top-level headers or even your own logs. We'll make September up to you slowly but surely!
- Day 338 ( Oct. 8/9 )
- We are kicking off the festival with a costume party! Travellers will be welcomed and encouraged to wear any manner of costume from beautiful to outrageous to hilarious. Yggdrasil doesn't have a Halloween so we're cheating and letting people dress up here if they want to. Get creative and have fun with your costumes! If someone wants to moderate an IC costume contest, that would be hilarious and awesome and you should do it!
- Day 339 ( Oct. 10/11 )
- Partially as a way for the gods ( Honir ) to learn more about you guys and partially as a way for people that didn't get to go on the Vanaheim plot, the theme of the second day will be home away from home! NPCs will cook food from your home worlds and play music from your home worlds and all of it will seem 100% authentic! Travellers are encouraged to dress with their world/time's traditional clothing and introduce or perform something particular to their homes to teach others a bit of their own culture.
- Day 340 ( Oct. 12/13 )
- This day is going to follow something of a Samhain celebration. Merlin, with the permission and help from the gods, planted the seed of an oak tree in the centre of the courtyard. By this day, it will have grown as large as though it's been there for a hundred years. Travellers will be welcomed to tie ribbons or letters to the tree for their departed loved ones and friends, whether they've passed on or simply left the city, in remembrance and a final farewell.
However, being far too curious about to whom they're writing, Honir will be going through all of the ribbons and letters when no one's looking. Moved by their losses, he'll be bugging Mimir into helping him perform a spell that will bring a sort of comfort to everyone. Characters can receive up to a maximum of three photographs of themselves with whomever their ribbon is for, regardless of whether or not they ever took a picture with that person or even had the technology to do so. All of these photographs will be candid shots of happy memories that will be waiting for them on the Travellers' pillows.
We aren't doing approvals for these so please, limit yourselves to only three photographs!- Day 341 ( Oct. 14/15 )
- Unofficial trick-or-treating! Because how could we possibly have a party in October without having candy? This one will be something of a house contest as well, though; as you go around to the various booths and attractions throughout the festival, NPCs will be handing out small treats to anyone they see wearing the colours of their patron god - whether you wore the colour intentionally or not!
The gods themselves will also be hosting a game of sorts: each of Asgard's patrons and allies will have a riddle or trivia question for any Travellers that approach them. Answer these correctly and they will tie a token of their favour ( a ribbon in their colour or crest ) around your upper arm. These ribbons can be cashed in for prizes at any time during the rest of the festival! The prizes are as follows:For these questions, we understand that you can OOCly read correct answers from previous threads but try not to let that bleed into IC knowledge, and please also try to remain IC about whether or not your character would answer correctly. This is a challenge for your characters!
- 1 - 4: A full basket of candies! Any sort of treat that can be considered a candy, from chocolates to Swedish fish. But no Archie comics!
- 5 - 8: A miniature fondue with endless chocolate falling in a simple but elegant fountain. No, you don't have to carry it home if you don't want to.
- 9 - 12: A small sum of money, roughly $60 USD. Don't spend it all at once!
- 13 - 15: A single question, a single honest answer from any of the gods. If there was ever anything you wanted to know or thought the gods lied about or even something about your home, now's pretty much your only chance to ask it. This will involve plotting with the NPC helper behind your chosen god, so we can figure that out when we get there.
- all 16: Three IC days of having the hypothetical "Level Four" House Powers. Information on those can be found in the Dokidoki Bishounen Return! plot event.
For reference, every god / ally that you will have to find for these questions is as follows: Odin, Heimdall, Loki, Sigyn, Thor, Hel, Baldr, Freyr, Freya, Jorg, Fenrir, Honir, Mimir, Ran ( Queen of the Mermaids ), Skuld ( Queen of the Elves ), and Alberich ( King of the Dwarves ). Njord and Skadi aren't coming because they smell.- Day 342 ( Oct. 16/17 )
- To end the festival on a high note, the gods will be welcoming Travellers inside the castle for a masquerade ball! There will be a fine feast in the banquet hall and a ballroom with live bands playing a variety of music for people to dance to. Maidstaff will be walking around with champagne for guests and there will be an open bar in the banquet room; please drink responsibly!
The gods will be gods, however, and it won't stop at that. This is the last day of their epic party; at the stroke of midnight, a small curse will hit everyone inside the castle barrier and the Travellers will be compelled to kiss their dates! This can be their date-auction dates, whomever they're dancing with at the time, their secret crush, or even everyone they came to the party with. The gods aren't picky about what defines a "date" this time around, so go crazy and pucker up!
But not entirely just yet. Before dawn on Day 346 ( Oct. 24 ), an odd red light will appear in the sky in the general direction of Muspellheim. It's not the sun rising early and it's not a glow cloud, just a single, large streak across the sky that might look like a crack. Some basic plot notes to explain how this will work!
Day One ( Day 346 / Oct. 24/25 ): A small earthquake rattles the city for three minutes. Everyone loses their voices. Two people will die late at night with their hearts cut from their chests. We will have another catch-all log for this event, but as always, you guys are welcome to get up to your own devices. Remember that your characters are voiceless, so get creative with how you're communicating across the city!
Day Two ( Day 347 / Oct. 26/27 ): The bodies are found. Buffycast will do their best to explain the situation and people will start looking for the "box" only to realise there's more than one. Two more people will die.
Day Three ( Day 348 / Oct. 28/29 ): Two more people will die. The last box will be destroyed right as they're cutting into the third and final victim. Screams of the victims will be heard across the city and the Gentlemen will die.
- There will be sign-ups for the roles of the seven victims that will be chosen by RNG. Of the seven chosen, we will RNG again for the last victim that survives the attack and sees the Gentlemen explode. If your character has their heart cut out, they will not revive until Day 348 ( Oct. 28/29 ) after the spell is broken and the hearts are recovered from the Gentlemen.
- There will be unofficial sign-ups to break the boxes in every district. You can only sign-up to break one box, though it doesn't have to be in your district. Travellers will have to work together in teams and fight off the henchmen in order to get to the boxes. These sign-ups are unofficial because we aren't really putting a limit on how many people can join the teams, but you guys will have to plot together to find your box.
- Everyone is voiceless for this event. No screaming or coughing or anything of the sort. This applies to animals and possibly even the gods; if you try to ring them up, they won't be answering. Voices will return by late evening of Day 348 ( Oct. 29 ).

Within a day and a half's travel by foot, the Travellers will come upon a small, unnamed village - no more than maybe a few dozen residents of both humans and a few elves - that live on the edge of Asgard's forests in the direction of Mirror Lake. They are still within the gods' territory but aren't fond of the modernised civilisation, preferring to live off the land - and so the land lives with them. They find their food by hunting and gathering within the stretch of the trees ( careful not to venture too far, lest they encroach on Muspellheim's borders ), and only take as much as they need. While they may be somewhat secluded from the rest of society, they are certainly not alone out here; oftentimes as they're walking through the trees, the ripest fruit from the highest branches will be dropped down at their feet by creatures that always manage to flit past the naked eye the moment anyone tries to look upon them. The forest is inhabited by the Loljesker, sprites of the treetops that take kindly to those that respect their land and will be quick to drive out those that do not. They live peacefully alongside the village, helping them find food and shelter and sometimes even sending warnings before a particularly foul storm comes their way. The villagers help keep the forest healthy and clean in return, doing their part to give back to the earth every bit as much as they partake of it. The Travellers will be welcome to stay and rest with them awhile, but take care not to bring harm to any within these trees, as sprites are not particularly known for their benevolence.Travellers will find the Asgardian hippies on Day 346 ( Oct. 24/25 ) and will be met with awe and wonder and a lot of warm hugs. They'll invite the Travellers to stay with them awhile, giving them blankets to stay warm and baskets to forage for food and whatever else they might need during their stay. They will be encouraged ( read as: gently forced ) to go back home on Day 348, arriving back in Asgard by Day 349 ( Oct. 30/31 ).
An optional mini-plot for this event ( cw: uninformed psuedo-drug use ): the first night in the encampment, the residents will cook up a modest feast for their guests and serve a special tea to anyone that wants it!
